Special Education

Always a privilege to step into another world that is filled with such passion, vision, and love.  One woman started with a desk and a chair in a shed and now has a remarkable school for special education children/adults.  The design of the school is fantastic with a ramp system that winds itself around internally and gradually finds its way to the top floor.  Of course, all of the doors, door handles, sinks, and so on are designed for the handicapped.  They just installed a special room with a pool for aquatic therapy.  It reminded me of the Shea Center with the colorful therapeutic equipment and enthusiastic
staff.  The founder is in her eighties and so another director has entered the picture to help her continue with her vision.  Both women are very inspiring.  There was a speaking contest where students came in from other schools to speak about the world of disabilities.  A very clever and effective way to combine the two worlds and encourage education beyond school boundaries.
